On the cusp of a single-family, residential neighborhood, this large commercial site and building built in the 1960s was ready for a new life. Creating a more efficient parking layout and demolishing the walls and roof, while adding onto the slab footprint of the original building enabled the building to be expanded in a cost effective way. To fit in with the neighborhood and gain support of the neighbors, a rustic-modern vocabulary was employed that created landscaped courtyards, fountains, arcades, exquisite metal work, tiled roofs and accent wall tile. The parklike setting and rustic building blend beautifully in the neighborhood.
